Confirmation is a two year program for 7th & 8th grade students prepare to receive this sacrament in the Spring of their 8th grade year. The Confirmation Handbook provides complete details about the requirements necessary to receive this Sacrament.

Adults age 18+ who have not yet been confirmed ​may contact the Parish Office to inquire about the Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA, formerly known as RCIA) program.

Registered ACTIVE parishioners who have been asked to serve as a Baptism Sponsor (Godparent) or Confirmation Sponsor should contact the Parish Office (703-817-1770) or [email protected] and make an appointment to complete a sponsor eligibility letter in the presence of a parish priest. The person chosen to be a sponsor must show up in person at the Parish Office to attest to the requirements below. 

Please be advised that for anyone 26 years of age and older who was originally included on a family’s parish registration, your registration status at St. Andrews is now “INACTIVE”. INACTIVE parishioners are not eligible to receive letters to serve as a godparent or Confirmation sponsor. Please visit our parish registration page for details. 

To be eligible to serve as a sacramental sponsor, one must  

• be baptized in the Roman Catholic Church
• be at least 16 years old
• have received First Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation
• not be married outside of the church or living with a partner outside of marriage
• attend Mass on Sundays and on Holy Days of Obligation
• receive the Sacrament of Penance at least once per year
• go to Holy Communion at least once a year during the Easter season
• profess your complete loyalty and fidelity to the Holy Father
• promise to give your full support to the person you are sponsoring by the example of your daily life
